just how independent are you?

Independent:
Not determined or influenced by someone or something else. Free!

That's what everyone wants, right?  To be independent!

My 20 year old son Davis is biting at the bit to be out on his own.  He's expanding his territory and his horizons each and every day. It's a joy to respond to his inquisitions on why I vote for whom I vote and why I chose to follow Jesus. And even if our views vary, from time to time, our discussions always leave me thankful that he's here on planet Earth with our family.

Thinking back....when I was his age, I was attending college full time and working 30 hours a week.  I lived with 12 girls in a sorority house and spend most of my free time partying with fraternity brothers.  I made choices that I now deeply regret and can't possibly take back.  (I won't go into too much detail as my parents receive this website.)  I'm still not sure if my "being self-sufficient" back then was all it was cracked up to be!  And although I presently cringe at the thought of an "empty nest"... I realize that the "twenties" are meant for such acts of independence. Living in Southern California, with the cost of living as it is, it will be awhile before my son can step out completely on his own.  I pray that the Lord is with both of us when the time comes.

But not all desires for independence come from people in their twenties!  Last week I spoke to a middle-aged woman who said, "I want to be independent from the nightmares that haunt me after my abortion!"  She was suffering from an increase in her use of alcohol and drugs, was pulling away from her friends and family and had considered ending her own life.  She desperately needed to be out from under the emotional influence of her abortion.  She needed an Abortion Recovery Program and she needed Christ as soon as possible!  We were blessed to be able to refer her to a few Abortion Recovery Centers/Programs in her hometown.

From January 1 - June 30, 2008, we received over 19,000 contacts from people looking for help after an abortion. Because of supporters like you, we are able to reach out to these women, men and families that have been negatively affected by the loss of an unborn child.  We evaluate their needs, match them with a few Abortion Recovery Specialists in their local area and help to start them on a healing process of mercy, grace and forgiveness. The wave of recovery is wide, vast and a Divine appointment!  We are, together, helping those wounded find INDEPENDENCE from a past abortion.

Thank you, for your continued financial support, prayers and well wishes.  We're blessed to be on this Kingdom Assignment!

about our president

Upon finding her "personal peace" from the guilt, grief and shame she experienced as an abortion affected woman, Stacy became passionate about sharing that tranquility with others. In 2003, she founded Abortion Recovery Counseling, Education & Outreach, an abortion recovery center in Southern California, now providing model outreach services both locally and nationally.

Stacy is also the President and Founding Partner (along with Christine Jackman) of Abortion Recovery InterNational, Inc. also known as ARIN.  ARIN is the parent organization to the Abortion Recovery Network, the Abortion Recovery Directory & Helpline, as well as other numerous services and programs.

ARIN is the first professional association solely dedicated to connecting like-minded abortion recovery efforts (agencies / programs / individuals) around the world. In 2005, Stacy initiated Abortion Recovery Awareness Month which takes place in April each year, to enlighten society to the stress and trauma that is often felt by abortion affected women, men and their families.
